the yoga philosophy of moon | sun | fire
+ my personal touch to it
everything we need is already within us.
My yoga teachings are a blend of traditional tantric Hatha yoga with influences of beautiful spiritual guides, yogis and teachers I’ve met along my personal yoga journey which started 20 years ago on a tiny island in British Columbia. Hear more about my way to yoga and coaching in my intro video here. My yoga classes are divided into 3 categories according to the traditional lineage and the tantric world view of Sri Vidya: Moon | Sun | Fire which can, in my offerings, also blend into one single session during Yin&Yang yoga.
moon | Sun | fire.
The three phases of practice build upon each other. We first and foremost cultivate the calm, clear moon energy within us and stabilize body and mind to be able to work with Prana, our life force energy. In the sun practice, we cultivate heat and power within the body to encourage this life force energy to grow bigger and shine through. In the third and final stage, we bring these two energies together in our core and work with the fire in our navel center during fire practice. Fire practice includes advanced asanas and breathing techniques and I only offer this stage to private students or long-term yogis whom I know very well as the practice is very intense and I am aware of my responsibility to hold a safer space for you during the practice.
moon.
Calm and stabilize your body and mind by guiding awareness inwards. Find the space of stillness that exists beyond the thinking mind. Moon practice is a deep and nourishing asana practice with longer holds and an emphasis on creating stability and calmness of both body and mind. This practice includes forward folds, twists and holding each asana while focussing on prolonging the exhales.
sun.
Energize your physical body, tap into higher levels of vitality and connect to the healing power of prana, our life force energy. Sun practice helps us to find motivation, to activate ourselves when we feel low in energy and to start our day full of joy and power by stepping in our full potential. This practice includes backbends, sidebends and a variation of Surya Namaskar (sun salutations).
fire.
Awaken your highest potential and shine your light by accessing your true soul-power. Fire practice includes a blend of asana categories including inversions to still the mind, cultivate energy and burn through limitations that hold us back from living the highest version of ourselves. The fundament of fire practice is a deep connection. For advanced practitioners only.
my personal touch.
I am more and more letting go of strict traditions and align my personal practice and my teachings more towards what I currently resonate with, what the energy of my yogi group brings into each session and also according to everyone’s level of energy and their personal needs. That’s why I incorporate the Yin&Yang yoga style into my teachings to merge the moon and the sun practice into one as this is what many yogis need to be present, focussed and to calm down their mind at the same time. Combining the sun and the moon, the Yin & Yang, fosters a deeper understanding of stillness and movement. This holistic approach cultivates a balanced energy flow, helping us in finding harmony and mindfulness on and off the mat.
yin & Yang yoga.
Yin&Yang Yoga seamlessly merges two distinct yoga styles, blending the introspective benefits of passive pose holding (moon) with the dynamism of active sequences and standing postures (sun). Rooted in Taoist philosophy, Yin & Yang represent complementary forces in nature – Yin embodies qualities of feminine, soft, internal, calming and downward energy, while Yang embodies masculine, powerful, external, warming and upward energy. In the context of yoga, Yin Yoga involves gentle, prolonged holds of poses, targeting the deep connective tissues and joints to promote flexibility and mobility. Yang Yoga encompasses more active practices, engaging muscles and promoting blood flow to build strength, create movement, stamina, and flexibility. A yoga practice which integrates both Yin & Yang elements caters to diverse physical and mental needs.
